Free India turns 53: Back to Gandhi-Nehru philosophy
When Jawaharlal Nehru said "Freedom is in peril, defend it with all your might" few then could fathom the vision of the architect of modern India. He was aware that a new nation that woke up to freedom on August 15, 1947, would indeed face several challenges on all fronts, especially to its unity and integrity. That call he gave along years ago is valid even today - 53 years after India achieved indepence. The massacre of amarnath piligrims and the continuing menance of the divisive forces in KAshmir and elsewhere underline the significance of Nehru's message. In this issue we have tried to take back our readers to the hopes ans aspirations of those who struggled for freedom. And focus on Rajiv GAndhi who had given India a new life and opened a new path boldly and confidently. His vision has ushered in a new era to place India in the front ranks among the comity of nations.
