Sir,--The
Indian National Congress is a strong organisation with a glorious
history.Under the leadership of Mahatma Gandhi it organisedvarious
section of society and launched a decisive movement against the
British rule which brought freedom to the country on 15th
august 1947. From 1947 onwards and till today the persons holding
posts in the organisation have constantly indulged in upgrading
their status or esteem.Indeed they succeeded in their endeavour, but
it was a loos for the organisation as the value of the devoted worker
and his efforts kept on decreasing. The big leaders have used the
workers as a crowd for demonstration or for garering votes for the
party candidates in the elections. Even then ,their continued ignorance
is a matter of great concern. The organisational decisions are being
made without consulting the common workers .As the powerful leaders
are drawn into the game of one-upmenship and getting posts for their
supporters, the organisation is gradually weakened . As a result
many frustrated workers are turning away from it. Everything went
helter-shelter during the selection of candidates for the forthcoming
local bodies polls in Madhya Pradesh, with the result the official
candidates could not be declared for Bhopal,Indore and Dhar district
and now the party candidates would fight as independents. The selection
of those who are close to the big shots as the party candidates
has generated much anger among the common workers of the party. It
has put a question mark on the winning prospects of party candidates.
A few suggestions for strengthening the party organisation:
- At
the village andcity levels the party worker should be registered
at the wardlevel.
- The
workers should be trained at various organisation lavels.
- Office-bearers
should be elected by registered workers and should be given the
power and responsibility to work for the masses.
- Workers
and office-bearers should be compulsarily associated with all
the organisational activities so that their importance in the
organisation remains intact.
- The
office-bearers at the district and panchayat levels should be
instructed to be in constant touch with the general public and
a periodic review of their work should be carried out.
- Party
candidate for the elections should be anounced only after consulting
the workers so that the possibility of defeat is minimal.
- Anybody
unrelated to the party organisation should not be given any post.It
would add to the importance of the organisation.
The
back page of the October issue of Congress Sandesh carried a beautiful
picture of Indiraji. It is my request that such pictures of our
importance national leaders should be made available on payment
by the AICC and PCCs or they may be published in poster size in
the journal.

Sir,---The
edtorial ‘tune for introspection and reorganisation’ in the October’99issue
was balanced, logical and a guiding document for the Congress
party.
The poor showing of the party in the recently held Lok Sabha polls
signifies that we have failed in our preparations somewhere. But
it should not be a source of disappointment, rather it should
be the basis of our inspiration. At the time of our independence
we were proud, confident and hopeful of a prosperous future. The
leaders of the time inspired us. Today the most communal of the
parties is preaching the virtues of secularism and taking the
people for a ride. Till the time intellectuals shy away from p0olitics
and other important activities, we will be ruled only by such
elements.

Sir,---
The analysis of all 85 seats in Uttar Pradesh in Congress Sandesh
(Nov ’99 issue) is really informative. It shows that the new century
belongs to the Congress and the process has already started in
Uttar Pradesh. One can see that the party has already gained in
its vote share in nearly 83 seats. The entire credit goes to Mrs
Sonia Gandhi’s dynamic leadership.
